Beginning in 2009, LakeShore Jazz @ TCA, in association with Friends of Tempe Center for the Arts, will offer a year-long series of monthly concerts. The concerts will feature internationally renowned jazz artists along with the finest jazz talent in Arizona that promises to put Tempe squarely in the middle of the national jazz scene. There will be 10 ticketed events which include icons of jazz, newcomers, rising stars and local favorites. The concerts will be staged in the TCA 230-seat Studio, the 200-seat Lakeside Room and the 600-seat Theater.
Subscription packages with a minimum purchase of four concerts will receive a fifth ticket free. Members of the Friends of TCA will receive a 15 percent discount on tickets for all concerts with no minimum purchase required. The ticket office has a list of members of the Friends.

Mose Allison, Friday, Feb. 26, 8 p.m. Lakeside Room Back by popular demand, Mose Allison is a living legend, and is often called "the William Faulkner of Jazz." His music and insightful lyrics have influenced many blues and rock artists, including The Rolling Stones, John Mayall, J. J. Cale and The Who, who made Young Man Blues a staple of their live performances. Accompanying are Dennis Sexton on bass and Pete Magadini on drums. Tickets are $30. Eliane Elias Quartet, Friday, Mar. 26, 8 p.m. Theater World renowned pianist / singer / songwriter, Eliane (pronounced El-e-ani) Elias is known for her distinctive and immediately recognizable musical style which blends her Brazilian roots, her sensuous, alluring voice with her impressive instrumental jazz, classical and compositional skills. Her 2008/ 2009 release Bossa Nova Stories is a celebration to the 50th Anniversary of the Bossa Nova and features her vocals accompanied by a stellar rhythm section and strings recorded at Abbey Road Studios in London. Tickets are $25-$40. Cinco De Moio with Luis Conte, Friday, Apr. 16, 8 p.m. Lakeside Room Drummer Dom Moio, has played with jazz luminaries such as Mose Allison, Herb Ellis, Ahmad Jamal, Benny Green, Nicholas Payton and Clark Terry. His percussion ensemble, Cinco de Moio is one of the most popular Latin jazz groups in the Southwest. Joining Cinco de Moio for this date will be master percussionist, Luis Conte, whose genius stems from his ability to integrate the powerful rhythms of his native Cuba with the American necessities of American pop music. His long and varied career has included numerous Hollywood film scores and mega-successful albums with Madonna, Ray Charles, Phil Collins, Santana, Shakira, Jackson Browne, Sergio Mendes, Cachao, and a multitude of other artists. Tierney Sutton Quartet, Friday, May 21, 8 p.m. Lakeside Room During its 16 years together, the Tierney Sutton Band has received 2 Grammy Nominations for Best Vocal Jazz Album, a JazzWeek Award for Vocalist of the Year, consecutive nominations for Jazz Journalist Association Awards, recorded several CDs that made the #1 spot on jazz radio playlists, and garnered critical praise throughout the world. Comprised of vocalist Tierney Sutton and instrumental virtuosos Christian Jacob, Kevin Axt and Ray Brinker, the band has headlined in recent years at Carnegie Hall, The Hollywood Bowl and Jazz at Lincoln Center, the Iridium Club in New York and has appeared at the Monterey, Marciac and Umbria jazz festivals. To date they have recorded eight CDs, each resulting in increasing recognition and acclaim. Tickets are $30. Brian Bromberg, Friday, June 25, 8 p.m. Theater From acoustic bass to electric bass, Piccolo bass to synthesizer bass, Brian Bromberg brings the art of bass playing to a new level where the bass moves beyond simply being a rhythm instrument and brings it up front to be the lead voice. Brian has toured and performed throughout the world with many of the greatest jazz musicians of our time. He has also recorded some of the most critically acclaimed instrumental albums in contemporary jazz, including his most recent CD, It Is What It Is, released in October, 2009. Tickets are $25-$40.
Benny Green Trio, Friday, Sept. 24, 8 p.m. Lakeside Room Many jazz critics believe Benny Green, next to the late Oscar Peterson, is the world's finest jazz pianist. His impressive recording career includes over 200 sessions. He has recorded as a sideman with: Betty Carter (including Grammy award winner Look What I Got), Art Blakey & the Jazz Messengers, Freddie Hubbard, Bobby Watson, Milt Jackson and Diana Krall. His 2009 LakeShore Jazz concert was an artistic benchmark for the series. Accompanying are Dwight Kilian on bass and Dom Moio on drums. Tickets are $30.
Karrin Allyson and the ASU Jazz Orchestra, Saturday, Oct. 30, 8 p.m. Theater Over the years, Karrin Allyson has recorded a series of eleven CDs for Concord Records, each of which have showcased her astonishing breadth of repertoire, from standards by Gershwin and Porter to Brazilian bossa nova to samba and Thelonious Monk. She has also taken on French and Brazilian music (From Paris to Rio), the genius of John Coltrane (Ballads: Remembering John Coltrane) and the blues (In Blue). Her many eclectic and steadfast recordings, however, are only the tip of the iceberg. Karrin Allyson spends two days out of three on the road, playing the major jazz festivals and clubs of the U.S. and making repeated tours overseas. She will be backed by the ASU Big Band conducted by Michael Kocour. Also accompanying will be guest artist, Scott Wilson, on trumpet and EVI. Tickets are $25-$40.
Bob Corritore Blues Bash, Saturday, Nov. 27, 8 p.m. Lakeside Room Bob Corritore is one of the most active and highly regarded blues harmonica players in the world. His style passionately carries forward the old school of playing that Corritore learned as a young man directly from many of original pioneers of Chicago Blues. His sympathetic, yet fiery harmonica playing is featured on over 30 releases to date, on labels such as HighTone, HMG, Blue Witch, Blind Pig, Earwig, Putumayo, Random Chance, and the Vizztone Label Group. Many of these acclaimed releases have been nominated for various Handy, Grammy, and Blues Music Awards. Bob is also widely recognized for his many roles in the blues, as band leader, club owner, record producer, radio show host, arts foundation founder, and occasional writer. Tickets are $30.
Dmitri Matheny’s Holiday Jazz Show, Saturday, Dec. 18, 8 p.m. Studio Lakeshore Jazz will stage the most festive holiday party in the Valley when the Dmitri Matheny Group presents Santa's Got a Brand New Bag at Tempe Center for the Arts. Protégé of the late jazz master, Art Farmer, Dmitri Matheny has toured internationally since the 1990s, earning such accolades as “the first breakthrough flugelhornist since Chuck Mangione” [San Jose Mercury News]. Voted “Best New Artist” in the JazzIz Readers Poll and “Talent Deserving Wider Recognition” in the Downbeat International Critics Poll, Matheny is known for his warm tone, soaring lyricism and masterful technique. He has appeared on dozens of compact discs as a composer, arranger, producer and featured soloist, and has released ten critically-acclaimed CDs as a leader. Tickets are $30
