The Friends’ sponsored “Performance with a View” series will offer a free monthly event in the TCA Lakeside Room beginning in February 2009. These informative, entertaining and informal performances will feature guest artists from a variety of artistic disciplines. This community outreach series is open to Friends of TCA and to the public. Coffee service begins at 9:30 a.m. and the program follows at 10 a.m. Optional gallery and facility tours follow.

Tuesday, February 16, 9:30 a.m. Lakeside Room

The voice students of Anne Elgar Kopta, soprano and associate professor of Music in voice, will perform “Arias and Favorite Songs.” Professor Kopta, a native of Kansas, has a distinguished record of performing and teaching that spans the world of Broadway and opera, and that of teaching at major universities and summer music schools both here and abroad. The students will be accompanied by ASU faculty artist Robert Mills. Coffee service begins at 9:30 a.m. and the program follows at 10 a.m. Optional gallery and facility tours follow. Free.

Join the Mill Ave Chamber Players for a concert featuring music for the harmoniemusik ensemble. Original works of Mozart, Rossini and new compositions and transcriptions to be performed featuring the use of the ensemble throughout music history. Coffee service begins at 9:30 a.m. and the program follows at 10 a.m. Optional gallery and facility tours follow. Free.

Nancy Buck, associate professor of viola in the Herberger College School of Music at Arizona State University, will direct an ASU student chamber ensemble. Buck is Coordinator of the String Chamber Music Program. Much in demand as a chamber musician and artistic collaborator, Buck also teaches master classes internationally. She presents annually for the American String Teachers Association National Convention. Coffee service begins at 9:30 a.m. and the program follows at 10 a.m. Optional gallery and facility tours follow. Free.

Tuesday, May 11, 9:30 a.m. Lakeside Room

 

Talented young pianist Joey Chang, 14, will perform. Chang studies with Arizona State University Professor Robert Hamilton who will host the program. Chang is the winner of the 2009 Jacob Flier International Piano Competition and has performed with the Hudson Valley Philharmonic Symphony. He attends the Peggy Payne Academy at McClintock High School in Tempe. Coffee service begins at 9:30 a.m. and the program follows at 10 a.m. Optional gallery and facility tours follow. Free.

Paradisa! is a winning combination of flute , cello and piano. Their repertoire blends an artistic mastery of classical standards with sassy, swinging jazz-influenced works, beguiling Latin selections, exceptional modern compositions, and their inventive arrangements of timeless Broadway and popular songs. Three accomplished artists—Christina Steffen on flute, Blythe Tretick on cello, and Andria Fenning at the piano—have extensive performance experience. Coffee service begins at 9:30 a.m. and the program follows at 10 a.m. Optional gallery and facility tours follow. Free.
